February 16: "Artists' Use of Telecommunications Conference", Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco (curated by Carl Loeffler). The conference is presented in "telecommunication space" with participants from nine locations around the globe. First global use of Slow-Scan TV by artists.

February: an exhibition by a collaborative group called "Pleasure/Function" takes place in David Amico's loft in Downtown Los Angeles. It includes Peter Fend, Colen Fitzgibbon, Jenny Holzer, Peter Nadin, Richard Prince and Robin Winters.

Ocean Earth Development Corporation is established by Peter Fend, emerging from the New York-based Offices art group.
