Michael Callahan

Michael Callahan was born in the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco in 1944 and came of age at the end of the Beatnik era in a city where the counter-culture movement flourished.

In 1964, Callahan and two friends, Steve Durkee, a poet, co-founded USCO. The acronym stands for "Us Company" because of the collaborative spirit of the times, they wanted their art to stand on its owns as a collaborative effort.
