DATES IN HISTORY OF CINEMA:

May 20, 1891: the first public demonstration of a prototype Kinetoscope was given at the laboratory for approximately 150 members of the National Federation of Women's Clubs. The New York Sun described what the clubwomen saw in the "small pine box" they encountered:
In the top of the box was a hole perhaps an inch in diameter. As they looked through the hole they saw the picture of a man. It was a most marvelous picture. It bowed and smiled and waved its hands and took off its hat with the most perfect naturalness and grace. Every motion was perfect...

1893: Exposition de Chicago: L'Allemand Amschütz montre un Tachyscope où des photographies montées sur une roue sont éclairées par intermittence.

14 avril 1894: première publique du kinétoscope sur Broadway.

1894: Les Lumière montrent un appareil de projection à des intimes dès l'automne 1894.

1895: L'Anglais Birt Acres projette en privé avec son Kineopticon.

13.2.1895: Les Lumière déposent une demande de brevet.

18.3.1895: Louis Lumière shoots his first film (Sortie des Usines Lumière).

22.3.1895: The first projection of a Lumière film in front of an audience of 200 people ("Société d'encouragement de l'industrie nationale")

Le même film est projeté à Lyon, le 10.6.1895, à l'occasion du Congrès des Sociétés Françaises de Photographie (programme de 8 films). 1: Sortie des Ateliers. 2: La place de la Bourse. 3: La leçon de voltige. 4: Les forgerons. 5: Le bébé et les poissons. 6: L'incendie. 7: l'arroseur arrosé. 8: Le goûter de bébé. Une autre séance est donnée le 12 juin.

November 1 through 31, 1895: The first public motion-picture film presentation in Europe, though, belongs to Max and Emil Skladanowsky of Berlin, who projected with their apparatus "Bioscop", a flickerfree duplex construction.

Début 1896: "Carpentier put nous livrer sa première dizaine d'appareils". (CHAR p.77)
